Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, let me enlighten you with some cold hard facts — Lizzo is having the best year ever and just slayed the BET Awards stage last night.
What’s up y’all? It’s Emile Ennis Jr. here with Clevver News and if you aren’t a Lizzo stan at this point, well I don’t know what you’re doing because even Rihanna is a stan.
Lizzo is having the year of her life with her album drop, Coachella performance, Met Gala appearance, and now she’s just been owning every award show stage she steps out on.
First the MTV Movie and TV Awards and now, last night, Lizzo solidified her spot as the MVP of the BET Awards with the best performance of the night and it’s everything you didn’t know you needed to make your Monday more bearable.
Lizzo, who was dressed in a sexy, bridal-inspired lace bodysuit, started her performance on top of a giant wedding cake stage before tearing off her veil and skirt to break it down with her background dancers.
And yes, her signature flute, AKA Sasha Flute, was there in all her glory.
Lizzo’s performance was so legendary that it got Rihanna up out of her seat dancing and clapping.
Ok so this feels like solid confirmation that Lizzo is indeed 100% THAT B*TCH.
Bow down to Queen Lizzo.
And Rihanna wasn’t the only celeb obsessed with Lizzo’s performance. Stars were flooding Twitter fangirling over her.
SNL’s Leslie Jones said quote, “Ok @lizzo you did that shit!! When you pull that flute bitch I jump out my chair!!!”
And Zara Larsson wrote quote, “I know depression and insecurities can cause a lot of anxiety and sadness, I feel it all the time, but when you get up on that STAGE?!?! YOU RADIATE CONFIDENCE and I can’t stop smiling watch your performances. You take that shit and turn it into gold. A queen @lizzo”
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
And Rihanna’s love for Lizzo didn’t know unnoticed by Lizzo herself who fangirled right back.
Lizzo posted on Instagram the clip of Rihanna jamming out to her performance and wrote quote, “RIHANNAAAAAAAAAAAAAA 😫 @badgalriri | @sashabefluting AWARD SHOW DEBUT!”
So thank you Lizzo for blessing all of us with this legendary performance and for just being you.
Unfortunately though, the BET Awards performances weren’t all as epic as Lizzo’s.
Cardi B, who won album of the year last night, was getting shade on Twitter for her performance.
While some of her fans loved her performance of Press and Clout with her husband Offset, some people were calling her out for lip syncing.
One person wrote quote, “Did @iamcardib just lip sync? #dry #BETAwards2019”
And another said quote, “Lovely lip sync battle. try again sis”
And I know, I know before you get mad at me for even bringing up the whole lip syncing thing, her choreography was nuts, so often times celebs lip sync some of their performance.
But it didn’t seem like she sang any of her song, so there you have it.
