2019 LA Auto Show: BMW M2 CS — Live in the Flesh
Let’s face it, this is the car all of you have been waiting to see from the 2019 LA Auto Show. The BMW M2 CS is the hottest enthusiast car to come from Bavaria at the moment and it’s a car that enthusiasts have been waiting on for years. In fact, ever since the original BMW M2 launched, fans have been hoping for an M2 CS, something more hardcore than the standard model. Well, here it is.
In person, it has some real menace. To be honest, I was personally a bit underwhelmed when I saw it in photos, upon its official reveal. Only because I felt that it wasn’t so much different from what a standard M2 Competition could look like with some M Performance add-ons. And while that’s still sort of true, there’s no denying its presence in the flesh.

The BMW M2 CS is very angry and very aggressive looking and its new Misano Blue paint option is the best part. Misano Blue isn’t unique to the BMW M2 CS, as it’s offered on other BMW’s, but no other M2 variant has it as an option. So it’s unique for the M2 family. It also looks the business.
Another important bit to note is its carbon fiber roof. No other M2 has a carbon fiber roof and, in fact, the M2 is the only M car to not offer a carbon fiber roof. So the fact that BMW went through the engineering effort, crash testing it and everything, to fit a carbon roof to the BMW M2 CS — which is going to be a very low-volume model — is impressive and commendable.

Powering the BMW M2 CS is a tuned version of the 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged I6 powering the M2 Competition. In fact, it has the same state of tune as the BMW M4 Competition, so it makes 444 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. I don’t know if it’s the exact same state of tune as the M4 Comp but if it’s similar to that car, it will be far more usable than the M2 Competition.
I think people forget that the M4 Competition Package was tuned better than the standard M4 and was therefor easier to drive at the limit. Let’s hope that remains the same for the M2 CS.
Either way, check it out in these live photos from the 2019 LA Auto Show and stay tuned for more.
