2026 Porsche 911 Spirit 70: Exclusive Convertible For 70s-Loving Enthusiasts
Stuttgart, Germany—During our last trip to Stuttgart, home of Porsche, we had the opportunity to drive a very special and exclusive 911 GTS Cabriolet. The 911 Spirit 70 brings back the vibe of the 1970s and early 1980s and is the latest of the “Icons of Cool” developed by the German automaker’s Heritage Design team.
It features a unique body colour, Olive Neo, along with a Bronzite finish on the lower rear section, front section and Sport Classic wheels in ‘Fuchs’ design. What’s more, the side decorative graphics with Porsche lettering and round start number field (‘Lollipop’) in black and individual start number are a nod to the brand’s sporting tradition—similar to the treatment found on the 2024 Porsche 911 S/T and 2023 911 Sport Classic.
Inside, attention to detail is remarkable and matches other 911 models. Of course, there are a few differences, notably the the black/Olive Neo colour scheme that comes to life with the iconic Pasha pattern (different-sized, cleverly arranged rectangles create a kind of moving checkered flag) on the centre panels of the 18-way sports seats Plus, the door panels and even the inside of the glove compartment. The instrument cluster’s green digits are reminiscent of the legendary Porsche 356 and the model lettering is integrated into the digital tachometer.
Finally, a gold plaque bearing the model name faces the passenger. It also serves as a reminder that only 1,500 units will be produced and sold worldwide. The number in our test model was “0000” because that car will be kept by Porsche as part of its collection and will potentially enter the company’s museum in a few years.
Clearly, the folks at Porsche trusted us to return it unscathed at the end of the day. By the way, with a base price of $256,900, nearly $20,000 worth of options plus the various taxes, the 911 Spirit 70 we drove cost an incredible $310,393, making it way more expensive and exclusive than a standard 911 GTS Cabriolet. As a limited edition, it should maintain or possibly increase its value in the years to come.
Hybrid, But Not Manual
Just like the other Carrera GTS models, the 2026 Porsche 911 Spirit 70 makes use of the new T-Hybrid powertrain consisting of a 3.6-litre flat-six engine with an electrically assisted turbocharger, a dual-clutch PDK transmission integrating an electric motor and a 1.9kWh high-voltage battery located at the front. As a result, it delivers similar performance—533 horsepower, 450 lb-ft of torque, 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 312 km/h.
In our opinion, an enthusiast’s car inspired by the 1970s should have included a manual gearbox. Sure, it’d be slower, but the driving experience would be significantly enhanced. Porsche likely wanted to showcase its hybrid technology and expertise, which required the use of the PDK.
From Downtown Stuttgart to the Autobahn
After picking up the car near the Porsche Museum, we took advantage of the pleasant weather to lower the soft top. As we quickly realized, despite its haute couture styling, the 911 Spirit 70 handles like other Carrera GTS models. The torque-rich hybrid system works great in urban driving, and the PDK seems to anticipate your every move. Regardless of the drive mode selected, gear shifts are smooth and seamless.
