2027 Mercedes-AMG G63: Rugged Icon Meets Ultra-Luxury
This is a fuller version of the G63 text you sent earlier, now with the highs, lows, verdict, and “What’s New” sections.
Highs and Lows
Strengths include a domineering presence, formidable off-road ability, and a potent, throaty twin-turbo V-8. Drawbacks include heavy consumption of premium fuel, handling that is not the best in its class, and a price that guarantees gated-community-level exclusivity.
Verdict
The G63 takes you to new heights in luxury, speed, and social standing.
Overview
Evolved from the original Mercedes Geländewagen military off-roader, the G63 combines exceptional trail capability with a commanding presence. Modern tech, a refined interior, and a 577-hp twin-turbo V-8 give it both glamour and speed. Its military DNA means it doesn’t ride or handle as smoothly as other luxury SUVs, but the attention it draws on a posh avenue more than makes up for its truck-like driving dynamics. Rivals like the Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus offer a more refined, better-honed driving experience.
What’s New for 2027
Very little. The G-Class has changed little over the years, and 2027 is not a year of major change.
Pricing
The 2027 Mercedes-AMG G63 starts at $200,100.
Engine and Performance
The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 makes 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque, aided by a 48-volt hybrid system that adds no electric-only range. A 9-speed automatic sends power to the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, which has low range and triple locking differentials (center, front, and rear). AMG tuned the suspension to handle the extra power on-road while keeping off-road ability. Many performance SUVs grip corners better, but few match the G63 off-road. Testers were impressed by the optional hydraulic adaptive suspension, which rides more smoothly on and off the road than the standard setup.
Acceleration
Car and Driver recorded 3.7 seconds to 60 mph. That trails the Bentley Bentayga S (3.5 seconds) and Aston Martin DBX (3.1 seconds).
Towing
Maximum towing capacity is 7,716 pounds, with trailer stability assist included, though few owners will use it as a primary tow vehicle.
Fuel Economy
EPA ratings are 14 mpg city, 16 mpg highway, and 15 mpg combined. In real-world highway testing, it returned 17 mpg, one point above its EPA highway estimate.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The cabin has rich leather, a 12.0-inch digital instrument panel, a surround-view camera system, heated front seats, and a leather-bound AMG steering wheel, with plenty of head- and legroom up front. Rear passengers get heated leather seats and generous headroom, with 39.5 inches of legroom, slightly less than the Bentayga. An optional rear entertainment system has dual 11.6-inch touchscreens. The side-hinged rear gate, which carries a full-size spare tire, still has no power assist and takes some effort to open. Cargo space is 38 cubic feet with the rear seats up and nearly 69 cubic feet folded, fitting 16 carry-on suitcases behind the rear seats or 33 with them folded.
