Triple series launch at the plant in Sindelfingen.
Mercedes-Benz has successfully launched series production of three updated top-end models—the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and EQS—at its Sindelfingen plant in Germany. All three models are produced on the same highly flexible production line at Factory 56, allowing Mercedes-Benz to quickly adjust production volumes according to market demand, regardless of whether the vehicles are electric or hybrid.
Factory 56 represents Mercedes-Benz’s vision for modern automotive manufacturing. It combines digitalisation, automation, artificial intelligence, and more than 400 automated guided vehicles (AGVs). Production processes are connected through the MO360 digital ecosystem, giving employees real-time access to production data.
Mercedes-Benz also follows a “local-for-local” strategy. Key electric components for the EQS, including its battery and electric drive systems, are produced at nearby facilities in Untertürkheim and Hedelfingen. Short transport distances improve logistics and production efficiency.
Employee training is another important part of the production strategy, particularly for AI-supported applications and new manufacturing technologies. Factory 56 also provides ergonomic workplaces and natural daylight to improve working conditions.
Sustainability is a major focus. In line with Mercedes-Benz’s Ambition 2039, Factory 56 is designed for carbon-neutral production and reduced energy consumption, supported by solar power, energy storage using reused vehicle batteries, and an innovative energy network.
Overall, the successful launch of three models within three months highlights Mercedes-Benz’s flexible manufacturing capabilities, skilled workforce, commitment to Germany as an industrial location, and investment in digital and sustainable production technologies.
