For starters, the Titanic wasn’t actually billed as “unsinkable” before it set sail; that was more of a legend that grew after the disaster. Contrary to popular belief, the ship wasn’t going too fast because of a race against time; it was actually moving at a regular speed for that era. Another myth is that the ship’s band played “Nearer, My God, to Thee” as it sank, but there’s no solid evidence to confirm this. Lastly, there were plenty of warnings about icebergs, but a combination of human error and miscommunication led to the tragic collision.
