South Africa: President Cyril Ramaphosa says violence designed to ‘destroy democracy’

The leader of South Africa’s government, Cyril Ramaphosa saw the damage wrought by seven days of rioting for himself, on a trip to Durban.

He told Sky’s Africa correspondent John Sparks “we must rebuild together, it’s a horrible situation.”

Townships and cities in the provinces of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, where Durban is situated, were overwhelmed by waves of looting and anarchy over course of seven agonising days.
