Afghanistan: Thousands of lives lost over 20 years

The war in Afghanistan has seen thousands killed over 20 years, only to have the Taliban regain control in 10 days.

457 UK personnel died during the 20-year war, but it was Afghan civilians who suffered the most, with an estimated 47,000 casualties. The UK spent almost £28bn on the conflict.

Sky’s Sally Lockwood looks back at the sacrifices and the effect of the ‘forever war.’
