Journalists and politicians critical of the Kremlin, have been targeted in an unprecedented crackdown by Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
On the first day of parliamentary elections, tech giants Google and Apple bowed to pressure and removed an app launched by supporters of jailed activist Alexei Navalny.
Sky News understands they acted after a criminal prosecution, and multiple threats, with one journalist saying Putin had abandoned even the pretence of democracy.
