Gov. Kathy Hochul finally sent a formal request to President Biden — demanding the White House take executive action to help New York tackle the broader-migrant crisis that is a federal responsibility.
“This is a financial burden the City and State are shouldering on behalf of the federal government,” she said in a letter sent to the president.
The letter, which was announced at a press conference Thursday afternoon in Albany, calls on the feds to expedite work authorizations and provide New York with significant financial assistance.
“Without any capacity or responsibility to address the cause of the migrant influx, New Yorkers cannot then shoulder these costs,” wrote Hochul to Biden.
“I cannot ask New Yorkers to pay for what is fundamentally a federal responsibility and I urge the federal government to take prompt and significant action today to meet its obligation to New York State.”
