Australian influencer and baker Brooke Bellamy is facing backlash after being accused of plagiarizing recipes in her best-selling 2024 cookbook, Bake with Brooki. The controversy was sparked by Nagi Maehashi, creator of the popular blog RecipeTin Eats, who claimed that Bellamy’s book featured recipes strikingly similar to her own — including a caramel slice and baklava. Despite reaching out to publisher Penguin Random House Australia, Maehashi alleges the response involved legal intimidation rather than resolution. Bellamy, known for her viral desserts and TikTok fame, released the cookbook in October 2024, promoting it as a guide to irresistible sweets.
The situation escalated when another prominent food blogger, Sally McKenney of Sally’s Baking Addiction, also claimed that one of her recipes appeared in Bellamy’s book and on her YouTube channel without credit. Bellamy denied all accusations in a now-expired Instagram Story, stating that her recipes are original and inspired by her own life experiences. While she shared old photos in defense, public response has been harsh, with sarcastic comments flooding her social media. Even Maehashi has asked fans to stop the trolling, calling for more respectful dialogue amid the controversy.
