Drake is giving fans a rare opportunity to get creative. The rap icon is calling on up-and-coming visionaries to submit treatments for his next music video, which will be directed by none other than Twitch streamer, Kai Cenat.
The idea reportedly came about after Drake saw Kai’s viral reaction to his “Nokia” music video. Following the reaction, Kai says he was tapped for what he calls the opportunity of a lifetime: to direct visuals for Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s upcoming collab project.
But Kai isn’t going at it alone. In true “for the chat” fashion, he’s inviting fans to submit 30-second to one-minute ideas, also known as treatments, for a chance to be selected as one of 20 creatives who will help direct the final product. The reward? A shot at $15,000 and a co-sign from Drake himself, who’s even posted some guidance to help contestants bring their A-game.
While the internet has mixed reactions, ranging from praise for fan involvement to jabs at Drake for “outsourcing” creativity, one thing is clear: this is a moment for fans to get directly involved in shaping the next big visual moment in hip-hop.
