2027 Land Rover Range Rover Sport: A Sportier Take on Luxury
Highs and Lows
Strengths include a striking exterior design, an upscale interior, and a remarkably smooth ride. Drawbacks include a higher price than rivals, an infotainment system with a learning curve, and the fact that true sporty handling only comes with the optional Stormer Handling package and V-8 engine.
Verdict
More compact and athletic than the standard Range Rover, the Sport offers much of the same luxury feel at a slightly more attainable price point, with sharper dynamics to match.
Overview
The Range Rover Sport combines Land Rover’s off-road heritage and luxury reputation with a more athletic character. Three powertrains are offered: a 355-hp turbocharged inline-six, a 395-hp version of the same engine, and a 523-hp twin-turbo V-8. The cabin is nearly as upscale as the full-size Range Rover, though it comes only with two rows of seating and slightly less space. Land Rover also sells a plug-in hybrid Sport and a 626-hp Sport SV, both reviewed separately by Car and Driver.
Pricing
The 2026 Range Rover Sport starts at $79,450 and can reach $122,750 depending on trim and options.
Engine and Performance
The base engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 48-volt hybrid assistance, producing 355 hp in the P360 SE and 395 hp in the P400 SE Dynamic. The top P530 models use a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 making 523 hp. All versions pair with an 8-speed automatic, standard all-wheel drive, and adjustable air suspension. An optional Stormer Handling package adds rear-wheel steering and rear torque vectoring for sharper cornering. In testing, the base P360 SE delivered a smooth ride, quick throttle response, and adequate acceleration in a quiet, comfortable package.
Acceleration
Car and Driver tested the P360 SE at 5.7 seconds to 60 mph, matching the Genesis GV80 but trailing the BMW X5 xDrive40i’s 4.4-second time. The V-8 model hasn’t been tested yet but is expected to perform similarly to that BMW.
Towing and Payload
Maximum towing capacity is 7,716 pounds, among the best in its class and ahead of rivals from BMW, Genesis, and Volvo.
Fuel Economy
EPA ratings are 20 mpg city and 25 mpg highway for the P360 and P400, and 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway for the P530. In Car and Driver’s 75-mph highway test, the P360 SE matched its 25 mpg estimate.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The cabin has a minimalist design with few physical controls, offered in textile or leather upholstery with two-tone finishes and dark chrome accents. Standard seats are power-adjustable, with an optional 22-way version featuring massage and ventilation, plus an available cabin air purification system. Rear seat space is tighter than in the larger Range Rover but comfortable for two adults, with reclining seatbacks and an optional dual-screen rear entertainment system.
