The E-Class remains a fully modern, richly equipped sedan that stays true to Mercedes-Benz’s long heritage while embracing current styling and technology. It combines a smooth ride, quiet cabin, and pleasing agility, offered with either a 255-hp four-cylinder or a 375-hp inline-six, both paired with a 9-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The interior impresses with understated, high-quality materials and a fully digital instrument panel, though more physical controls would be welcome. A related All-Terrain wagon version is reviewed separately. For 2027, the E-Class carries over unchanged, with a refresh expected within the next couple of model years.

Engine and Performance
The E350 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with a 23-hp electric motor, with all-wheel drive optional. The E450 pairs a similar hybrid setup with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six for a combined 375 hp; all-wheel drive is standard on this and other E-Class models beyond the base E350. The hybrid assistance reduces turbo lag and smooths auto start/stop operation. Both powertrains deliver power smoothly and quietly, with the E450’s inline-six standing out as especially refined. An optional adjustable air suspension improves on the standard steel-spring setup, and both deliver strong ride quality and handling, aided by an optional rear-wheel-steering system for tighter maneuvering.
Acceleration
Car and Driver recorded 4.4 seconds to 60 mph for the E450 4Matic and 5.8 seconds for the E350 4Matic. Comparable BMW 5-series models are somewhat quicker, with the 530i xDrive reaching 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and the 540i xDrive in 4.0 seconds.
Fuel Economy
EPA ratings reach up to 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway for the E350, and 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway for the E450. In Car and Driver’s 75-mph highway test, both the E350 and E450 returned 35 mpg, with the more powerful six-cylinder matching the four-cylinder’s real-world efficiency.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The cabin emphasizes comfort and upscale detailing, with generous passenger space and available leather upholstery, wood inlays, and metal trim, though many premium materials are optional. Rear-seat space is roomy with strong headroom, though the low-mounted cushion may be less comfortable for taller passengers on longer trips. Cargo capacity is a modest 12.7 cubic feet, smaller than the BMW 5-series’ 18.4 cubic feet, while the separately reviewed E-Class All-Terrain wagon offers 21.7 cubic feet behind its second row.
