2027 Ford F-150 Raptor

2027 Ford F-150 Raptor: Factory Off-Road Dominance

Highs and Lows
Strengths include genuine factory off-road credibility, surprisingly composed on-road manners, and a choice between a turbo V-6 or supercharged V-8. Drawbacks include poor fuel economy with either engine and a large footprint that can be a challenge on narrow trails or in parking lots.

Verdict
The F-150 Raptor can tackle dunes on weekends and still handle everyday hauling duties, provided you can afford to keep it fed with fuel.

Overview
Built on the standard F-150’s four-door, 5.5-foot-bed layout, the 2027 Raptor transforms it with a dramatic performance upgrade. The base model uses a 450-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6, paired with an off-road-tuned suspension featuring Fox dampers and 35-inch tires, with 37-inch tires optional. Distinctive styling includes a reinforced front end, muscular hood, and wide fender flares. The Raptor R pushes further with a 720-hp supercharged 5.2-liter V-8. Both versions use a 10-speed automatic, a standard locking rear differential, and an optional front locker. Despite its extreme capability, the Raptor can also deliver a comfortable, composed ride for everyday driving. The revived Ram 1500 TRX SRT, now with 777 hp, gives Raptor R buyers a direct rival to consider.

Pricing
The 2027 F-150 Raptor starts at $77,790 and reaches $114,835 depending on trim and options. The Raptor R costs about 40 percent more than the standard Raptor but delivers roughly 55 percent more horsepower, making it an easy choice for buyers prioritizing outright performance.

Engine and Performance
The standard Raptor uses Ford’s high-output twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6, producing 450 hp and paired with a 10-speed automatic and standard four-wheel drive. The Raptor R steps up to a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8, borrowed from the Shelby GT500 and tuned to 720 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque. Both come standard with 35-inch tires, with 37-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires optional on the base Raptor and standard on the Raptor R, improving approach, departure, and breakover angles while adding 1.1 inches of ground clearance for a total of 13.0 inches on the R. All Raptors use Fox internal-bypass dampers and a five-link rear coil-spring setup, with 37-inch-tire models gaining Fox Dual Live Valve shocks for continuously variable damping. Off-road testing showed excellent traction and ride quality even on difficult terrain.

Acceleration
Car and Driver recorded 5.2 seconds to 60 mph for the standard Raptor and 3.6 seconds for the Raptor R. The Ram 1500 RHO is quicker than the base Raptor at 4.4 seconds, though the Raptor R remains unmatched in the segment, pending comparison with the new 777-hp Ram TRX SRT.

Towing and Payload
Maximum towing is 8,200 pounds for the standard Raptor and 8,700 pounds for the Raptor R, with payload capped at 1,400 pounds for both, notably lower than the standard F-150’s towing range of up to 13,500 pounds and payload up to 3,250 pounds.

Fuel Economy
EPA estimates are 14 mpg city and 18 mpg highway for the standard Raptor, dropping to 10 mpg city and 15 mpg highway for the V-8 Raptor R. In real-world highway testing, the 37-inch-tire Raptor R returned 15 mpg, comparable to the Ram 1500 TRX SRT’s EPA highway rating of 14 mpg.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The cabin shares its layout and space with the standard F-150 SuperCrew but adds a 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster, upgraded materials, additional storage, and a sport steering wheel with aluminum paddle shifters. Optional upgrades include carbon-fiber trim and more heavily bolstered Recaro front seats. The Raptor is offered only as a four-door crew cab with ample rear-seat space, though it comes exclusively with a short 5.5-foot bed.

Infotainment and Connectivity
A 12.0-inch touchscreen runs Ford’s Sync 4 system with Amazon Alexa integration, over-the-air updates, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Physical volume and tuning knobs are retained alongside voice controls, and an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system is optional. A 2.0-kW mobile generator mounted in the bed is also available for powering tools and equipment.

Safety and Driver Assistance
Standard features include forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Off-road-specific aids include Trail One-Pedal Drive and Trail Control, a low-speed cruise control system for difficult terrain.

Warranty
Coverage includes a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, plus five years or 60,000 miles of roadside assistance, though Ford does not offer complimentary maintenance like some rivals.
