Lil Nas X is getting all sorts of candid with Ellen Degeneres, as they go in on his personal life, his fear of coming out and even his relationship status.
What’s up you guys, it’s Sussan Mourad back here on Clevver News, and if there was ever an award for getting celebs to open up about their most personal lives, that award would go to none other than Ellen Degeneres.
It’s like she’s a comedian, a talk-show host, your cool aunt and your therapist all in one… so I’m guessing that’s probably why Lil Nas X felt the most comfortable opening up to her about his wild year, his newfound celeb status, anddddd his relationship status for that matter.
But before he rose to rapid success with his record-breaking, 19-week chart-topping hit “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, Nas revealed that it was only one year ago he was crashing at his sister’s house… residing on her floor.
Although he looks back and completely understands why his parents were hesitant about his music career, that didn’t stop him from promoting himself online heavily. Well I think I speak for all us music fanatics, and anyone who has a pair of ears for that matter, that it’s a good thing Nas followed through with his dream because “Old Town Road” is a hit, and you can’t deny it.
But it was his personal life, and his courage with coming out at the end of Pride Month back in June, to his family, let alone the entire world, that earned him a massive applause from Ellen and her audience.
He spoke about the decision to come out and revealed that he only told his dad and sister days before he came out to the public.
Nas said QUOTE, “The same month that I came out I told them, just to give them a heads up.” Yeahhh, I’m thinking that was probably a good call.
He also revealed that, although he’s received plenty of support about coming out, that he didn’t think coming out to the public was even an option for him. He said QUOTE, “It’s something I never probably would have did if I was still living with my parents. Just like, rip the Band-Aid off.”
He previously opened up to comedian Kevin Hart on an episode of HBO’s The Shop: Uninterrupted, about growing up in the “ghetto” and how the idea of coming out wasn’t exactly welcomed by his community, saying that QUOTE, “I was growing up to hate homosexuality and gay people.”
He now looks back on his decision and even though he was always worried about how his friends and family might react, this whole breakthrough has turned his whole life around.
“I’m in a new level so it doesn’t really matter,” Nas said, also adding that he hopes coming out will also help some of his young fans, who are “gonna have to go through stuff like this in the future.”
He also noted that coming out when he did was his way to use his platform and make a powerful statement.
He said, “If for me, the ‘cool dude with the song on top of everything,’ to say this at any other time, I’m going this for attention in my eyes. But if you’re doing this while you’re at the top, it’s for real. It’s showing it doesn’t really matter.”
Why do I feel like this guys should start motivational speaking, or like, TED Talks, or something?!
Ok so I know you’ve all been waiting for the juicy stuff, so here it is. Following the announcement of Lil Nas X’s sexual orientation, herein lies the question of “Sooooo are you seeing someone?!”
Thank God for Ellen Degeneres who totally pulled an Ellen, and got straight to the point…
