The next chapter on the list of useful BMW How-To videos shows us how to use the Comfort Access feature to get in and out of a BMW vehicle in a convenient and seamless way. Comfort Access uses radio frequency communication technology to detect the electronic key fob and its position relative to the car. When activated, this feature enables the driver and passenger to unlock and lock the BMW vehicle without the need of reaching for the car or pressing the outer door handles.

The Comfort Access system, which is offered as an option on mostly all new BMW models, can be activated via the intuitive BMW OS 7.0 infotainment interface. To get the most out of this feature, select the option CAR on the main screen, then go to Settings, swipe to find Vehicle Access and click on it, then select Comfort Access and tick the marks for “Unlock by approaching” and “Lock by leaving”.

The next time you approach your BMW, keep the key fob in your pocket and the car will automatically sense it and open itself based on your previous Comfort Access setting. The LED daytime running running and the LED taillights will turn on, whereas the front and rear blinkers will activate to signal the opening of the car. The exterior mirrors will also unfold.

When leaving the car, close the door, distance yourself keeping the car key in your pocket and your BMW will automatically lock itself, blink to signal this action, fold the mirrors and then turn off the lights.

You can control the car’s behavior upon opening and closing automatically by going up to the Vehicle Access menu and ticking the boxes for “Flash for lock/unlock”, “Acoustic signal for lock/unlock” and “Fold mirrors in when locked”. It is important to highlight that, due to safety and battery charge requirements, the Comfort Access will automatically deactivate if there have passed more than three days since the car was last accessed.

The featured model in this video is (likely) an all-black M850i xDrive Gran Coupe (G16) specced in Sapphire Black metallic color, with 20-inch Black Y-spoke 728 M Sport alloy wheels, some M Performance Parts (carbon fiber mirror casings and front grille ornaments), exterior side window adornments in BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line and a cabin pampered in the BMW Individual Merino Fiona Red/Black leather upholstery, BMW Individual Piano Lack high-sheen wood trim for the dashboard and CraftedClarity glass applications.
