The Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab says the idea he was “lounging around on the beach” while the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan escalated “was nonsense” and that he was in COBRA meetings despite being on holiday.
He told Sky’s Niall Paterson that his role means that he’s often out of the country or travelling, but his mind is on the job at all times.
Mr Raab said the government was surprised by the scale and pace of the collapse of the situation in Kabul but he “was focussed on what really mattered”.
