The Taliban in Kabul have told Sky News that the British Embassy is now safe and that staff can return whenever they like.
It’s a diplomatic tact that is in stark contrast to reports of the suppression of journalists and the beating of women who dared protest for equal rights.
Meanwhile, a plane carrying dozens of foreigners, including 13 British nationals, has been able to leave Afghanistan and land in Doha.
