Alec Baldwin said Friday that his “heart is broken” after firing a prop gun that killed a cinematographer and wounded the director of a movie being filmed in New Mexico.
“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours,” Baldwin tweeted.
“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family.”
He added: “My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
Directer Joel Souza was also wounded in the deadly incident that took place Thursday on the desert set of the Western “Rust” on the southern outskirts of Santa Fe.
An official with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 44, which represents movie prop masters, reportedly sent an email to its members that said “a single live round was accidentally fired on set.”
