This is the heartwarming moment a stranded sea turtle was saved by beachgoers after it was trapped in a shallow rock pool.
Naomi Ramirez found the turtle when her dog started barking at the marine animal near their house in Negros Oriental province, the Philippines early in the morning on November 17.
The disorientated 70kg giant turtle is believed to have been blown off course during rough seas caused by recent storms. It was left on land when the tide went back out and was unable to waddle back to the water because it was trapped among the rocks and mud.
Naomi tried to carry the animal by herself but it was too heavy so she had to wait for local fishermen to arrive for the start of work and call for help.
The animal lover stayed with the turtle to ensure its safety until people come to help her rescue it.
Around 6 a.m., when the sun was up, neighbours who saw her rushed to help, including her father.
They first checked its health and looked for injuries and when they found none, the residents decided to carry it back to the water.
Naomi said: “The turtle looked fine so we decided to take it back to the ocean. We were all happy to help it.
”I do not want to think about what would have happened if my dogs didn’t notice the turtle. If I hadn’t found it, perhaps it would not have survived until the sea came back.”
Four men helped to carry the female turtle and took it back to the water before it paddled away.
The delighted residents cheered and clapped as the turtle swam towards the deeper part of the sea.
Naomi informed the local officials about the stranded animal and thanked everyone who helped her.
