The 2019 MTV VMA nominations have officially been announced, but it seems as though Ariana Grande may not be in attendance and we are NOT OK.
What’s up guys, it’s Sussan Mourad back here on Clevver News, and I honestly wish I didn’t have to report this, and I also wish that Ari is totally trolling us over the fact that she may not be able to attend this year’s MTV VMAs, ESPECIALLY after the musical sweep of a year she’s had.
After the 2019 nominations were announced yesterday, Ariana snagged a total of 10 nominations in major categories, including Video of the Year for “Thank U, Next,”, so, like, IDK cancel a Sweetener show or something, because GIRL YOU GOTTA MAKE THIS SHOW.
She broke the news that she would likely not be able to attend the show via Twitter when she responded to a fan that her Sweetener Tour was the cause of the schedule snafu. She wrote QUOTE, “i have shows in london the day before and after :/”.
But what makes this whole thing even more tough is that sources have told Page Six that Ariana’s absence will make it hard for her to win the evening’s biggest award, Video Of The Year. The source said QUOTE, “MTV likes to give awards to bodies in the building. I think MTV is in a tough spot.”
And by ‘tough spot’ I mean that MTV probably took another look at Ari’s success, streams and all-around numbers throughout the year, and were like OH CRAP. Thankfully in the event Ari actually can’t attend the show, every other artist in the Video of the Year category is well-deserving and equally as AMAZING, including Taylor Swift, 21 Savage, Billie Eilish, The Jonas Brothers and Lil Nas X.
Looks like we got ourselves a competition, folks! But ultimately, the voting is up to YOU GUYS, so if you’re feelin’ generous and care to drop in a vote or 10 in hopes of Ariana making the show and tacking on yet another VMA to her belt, get to voting!
