Aston Martin DBX Undisguised: Details Revealed in New Photos

Ignore the dogs. We’ve already seen photos of the upcoming Aston Martin DBX wearing trippy camouflage and bright red lipstick, but a new batch of undisguised detail shots provide fresh clues about the super-SUV. Bundled with a news blast covering accessories that can be optioned on the high-performance high-rider, the photos hint at its capabilities, as well as similarities and differences between other Aston Martins.

Take a moment to stretch before proceeding, because we’re about to reach.

Aston Martin DBX Pet Pack Dogs Trunk

The crew in Gaydon explicitly details the DBX’s cargo capacity as they describe the available Pet Pack. It’s listed as 632 liters, which converts to about 22.3 cubic feet. That’s comparable to other sporty fastback SUVs; the Lamborghini Urus holds up to 21.75 cubes of cargo, while the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe offers 21.1. Oh, the Pet Pack brings a safety partition, rear bumper protector, accessories like brushed-metal food bowls and a leather-trimmed bed, plus a portable washer so you can rinse off muddy dogs before loading them into your expensive luxury car.

Looking past the panting pooches in Aston’s images, we get a look—albeit obstructed—of the DBX’s rear end. The lower bumper area shows a perforated detail around the exhaust outlets, much like what’s found on the Vantage. The gleaming red paintwork surrounding the open cargo door is one of what’s sure to be many evocative hues available for the DBX.

Aston Martin DBX Interior Picnic Blanket

For the very first time, we get a look at the DBX’s uncamouflaged dashboard. It’s blurry, but looking past the picnic blanket (rolled in a leather carrying case, natch) included in the Event Pack, we can tell this vehicle gets a distinctive layout compared to Aston Martin’s other offerings. Whereas the Vantage and DB11 have infotainment screens positioned at the top of the dashboard, the DBX’s display appears to be positioned centrally. More noteworthy is the apparent inclusion of round buttons above the screen. Those seem to be the trademark push-button gear selectors as seen in many prior Aston Martins, but positioned higher up than ever before.

We’re confident the DBX will be an admirable road performer, but it seems its capabilities won’t end when the pavement does. The Adventure Pack adds mud flaps and heavy-duty tread plates to the exterior, indicating the DBX will be ready to get dirty; those teaser shots shared previously showed it having some sideways fun on a gravel road.

We’re excited to see the actual specs and capabilities of the Aston Martin DBX, and even more excited to test them out ourselves. Until then, we’ll comb through preview photos and press releases to glean any shred of information, however tenuous, that we can. We won’t have to for much longer though: Aston is targeting the fourth quarter of 2019 to reveal its first SUV. It’s likely we’ll see it at an auto show soon, possibly L.A.
