VIDEO: E46 BMW 3 Series Compact is a Fun Bargain

Auto and Cars

VIDEO: E46 BMW 3 Series Compact is a Fun Bargain Let’s be honest, most car enthusiasts can’t afford brand-new BMWs. As a premium brand, the cost of entry is quite high for the Bavarian brand, so it’s not as if every enthusiast can get in. Which is why so many enthusiasts turn to used, much older, much cheaper Bimmers to suffice. But picking which used Bimmer to buy can be tricky. So turning to videos like this one from Car Throttle can help you choose. In this new video, CT chooses seven daily drivers that are both cheap and fun. One such car is the E46-generation BMW 3 Series Compact. There were only two generations of 3 Series Compact and neither of them were very loved when new. The E46-generation is the newer of the two and arguably better looking. Though, neither ...

The model name was the BMW M4 Heritage Edition and was limited to 750 units. One of those units just showed up at the Charlotte-based Hendrick BMW. The three color choices are equally iconic – Laguna Seca Blue, Velvet Blue metallic and Imola Red. BMW iDrive deemed least distracting infotainment system by What Car

Auto and Cars

BMW iDrive deemed least distracting infotainment system by What Car Screens inside our cars are already the norm. I was recently looking at the interior of an E46 3 Series model and there was no screen inside. Sure, some higher-end models did have a small screen on the dash, but it was the exception and, it didn’t have nearly as much functionality as they do now. These days though, the interiors of our cars, including BMW models, are dominated by screens. In some cases, they could easily pose as TVs. All of that info and all those animations do distract you from the road, as many studies have found recently. It seems that the more functionality a car’s infotainment screen offers, the more time we waste looking into that. So, which systems are the most distracting, ergo the m...

My Opinion: I Hope the BMW X8 M — Whatever It is — Sells Well

Auto and Cars

My Opinion: I Hope the BMW X8 M — Whatever It is — Sells Well Last Summer, I had the chance to talk to BMW M CEO Markus Flasch about a few different topics, while at M Fest in Canada. One of the questions I asked him was about the possibility of a bespoke M car, something developed entirely by the BMW M Division and not based on a pre-existing BMW model. Not only did he say such a car was possible but he said it was likely. Now, fast forward nearly a year, we know a bespoke M car is on the way and that it’s likely coming in the form of a BMW X8 M. Upon learning of the X8 M, fans were actually a bit disappointed. Sure, it’s going to be a standalone M product but not exactly what the fans wanted. Instead, fans would prefer something smaller, lighter and sportier, preferably wi...

We are yet to see camouflaged test prototypes for the future 7 Series, but there’s a good chance they’ll hit streets this summer. The future G70/G71 7 Series is scheduled for world premiere in 2022, most likely during summer as in the case of the G11/G12 and F01/F02 generations. The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe (F44) celebrates Czech market debut

Auto and Cars

The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe (F44) celebrates Czech market debut We bring you fresh pictures of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe from the Czech market launch. The first of its kind, the F44 generation is underpinned by the new FAAR front-driven platform to be also found on the F40 1 Series. The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has left many of us undecided or intrigued. Yes, it might have a quirky look if you expect it to act like a mini-8 Series Gran Coupe. The proportions of the body are quite controversial and need time to get accustomed to them. Since I first saw it, the F44 2 Series has managed to grow a bit in my eyes. While it still flaunts a rather bulky silhouette, I must say the overall styling is better than the styling of the new 1 Series. Of course, I would have liked more athlet...

Car Mag pits E30 BMW M3 vs Mercedes-Benz 190E Cosworth

Auto and Cars

Car Mag pits E30 BMW M3 vs Mercedes-Benz 190E Cosworth When it comes to famous automotive battles, there are a couple that immediately come to mind; Mustang versus Camaro, Corvette versus 911 and Ferrari versus Lamborghini. However, there’s an older battle, which admittedly only lasted one generation, that was absolutely epic in its time — the E30 BMW M3 versus the Mercedes-Benz 190E Cosworth. Back in the ’90s, these two cars had absolutely fantastic battles, both on road and on track. During their DTM days, they were also the two coolest cars on track. But now that decades have past since they’ve done battle, what are they actually like? In this comparison, we get to see what each of these legends is like to drive. What’s fascinating is the fact that, des...

RENDERING: Future BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe with M Sport Package

Auto and Cars

RENDERING: Future BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe with M Sport Package As more and more spy photos of the BMW 4 Series keep popping up, we’re getting a better and better idea of what it’s going to look like. It goes without saying that the focal point of the next-gen 4er is going to be its new grille design. BMW has taken the iconic kidney grilles and enlarged them to the point of caricature. This new design direction has caused quite a bit of controversy among the BMW fanbase, to put it lightly. Which is why we’re very interested to see what you readers have to say about this new 4 Series render. The render we see here is based off of the recently-unveiled BMW i4 Concept, just with its EV-ness removed and a more traditional face grafted on. So it gets more traditional headlig...

#StayHome: A handful of interesting BMW facts plus essential BMW book recommendation

Auto and Cars

#StayHome: A handful of interesting BMW facts plus essential BMW book recommendation Right in time with the lockdown amid the CoVID-19 pandemic, we propose two essential books that tell the stories of two classic BMW icons which helped the brand gain its popularity and worldwide success: the 507 roadster and the 2002 two-door sedan. We talked about the late ’50s BMW crisis in a previous article from December 2019. The 1950 – 1959 decade was really a tormented period for most companies in the post-war Germany and BMW too faced significant adverse challenges. Back then, BMW was producing high-end luxury cars which sadly did not live up to desired expectations in terms of sales success: the 501 limousine, the 502 V8-powered derivative, the 503 2+2 gran turismo and the 507 roads...

BMW Canada asks repair shops to donate excess PPE to hospitals

Auto and Cars

BMW Canada asks repair shops to donate excess PPE to hospitals The Coronavirus outbreak is putting every healthcare system in the world in the red, with hospitals around the globe not being prepared for such a high influx of patients. The number one priority right now is securing enough protective gear for hospital workers so that they can be safe while attending to the sick. Therefore BMW Canada made a requests to all the repair shops in its network across the country: to donate all the excess personal protection equipment (PPE) they can spare. I’m pretty sure that, if you’ve ever been to a paint shop, the moment you saw the protective equipment used for automotive painting, it would look familiar to what doctors and nurses use. That’s because, at least at a first loo...

Video: How to customize the new digital BMW instrument cluster

Auto and Cars

Video: How to customize the new digital BMW instrument cluster BMW introduced a new instrument cluster a few years back, part of its new design for the cabins of contemporary models. Its official name is BMW Live Professional Cockpit and it’s available as an optional extra on most models, along with BMW iDrive 7. If you read my reviews of the new system you might be aware that I’m not exactly its biggest fan but, then again, I understand that a digital display is needed these days, considering the vast amount of information available to us. BMW is just doing what it has to but I still think the counterclockwise rev counter is a mistake, especially for a brand that prides itself on the way its cars drive. Furthermore, another one of my complaints was the fact that sometimes t...

Are you Brave Enough to Chance a 320,000-Mile ALPINA B10

Auto and Cars

Are you Brave Enough to Chance a 320,000-Mile ALPINA B10 The idea of buying an old, highly-used yet very special car is one that’s tempted car enthusiasts for ages. Most of us either can’t afford expensive and special cars or live in markets (see: US Market) where they aren’t available. So the idea of finding one that’s easily affordable and old enough to import is extremely attractive. But is it attractive enough to buy this ultra-high-mileage ALPINA B10? (We don’t own the photos but see them here) This specific 1987 ALPINA B10 is based on an E28-generation BMW 5 Series and it looks absolutely fantastic. I’ve personally always loved the classic styling of the E28 5er but it looks the absolute business in ALPINA-spec. However, despite how good it look...

One-Off Pinifarina-Designed Rolls-Royce Hyperion can’t seem to find a home

Auto and Cars

One-Off Pinifarina-Designed Rolls-Royce Hyperion can’t seem to find a home True coachbuilding doesn’t exist anymore in the automotive industry. Decades and decades ago, you could buy a rolling chassis and have a coachbuilder make you a body for it. That led to some of the most incredibly creative and gorgeous works of automotive art the world has ever seen. In today’s modern world of scalable architectures and space-frame chassis, coachbuilding just isn’t all that possible anymore. Which is why when some brands get close, the world takes notice. Like this Rolls-Royce Hyperion, designed by Pinifarina. (We don’t own the photos but see it here) Based on the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, the Hyperion has a custom-tailored body that is mostly beautiful and, desp...

SPIED: 2021 G82 BMW M4 Competition Interior Spotted for First Time

Auto and Cars

SPIED: 2021 G82 BMW M4 Competition Interior Spotted for First Time We’re in a very small minority among BMW enthusiasts in that we aren’t all doom and gloom about the upcoming BMW M4 and its grille design. Is it going to be polarizing? Sure. Is it going to be horrific, as some fans are already claiming it to be? Probably not. However, I will say this — the rest of it is going to look damn good, as evidenced by these new spy photos. (We don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen here) In this new pics, we can see a camouflaged G82 BMW M4 doing some road testing and we get to see enough of it to know it’s going to look good. Its overall shape, silhouette and curves seem to look very good, potentially even good enough to make even the most ardent of detract...

Upcoming 2021 BMW i4 looks great in this new rendering

Auto and Cars

Upcoming 2021 BMW i4 looks great in this new rendering The upcoming 2021 BMW i4 is quickly approaching its market launch. The new electric vehicle is based on the BMW Concept i4 unveiled a few weeks ago and it’s one of the boldest products to come from BMW. Naturally, rendering artists, such as Andrei Avarvarii, are having fun with the i4. This new rendering brings the concept closer to the production model. As we’ve learned from BMW, the Concept i4 is nearly 80 percent close to the actual model. So let’s start analyzing this render. At the front, it retains the Concept i4’s kidney grille. So the enlarged kidneys are dominating the front fascia, while the sleek laser lights give the car that extra oomph. The front bumper is designed to improve the aerodynamics, a...

BMW 8 Series discounts average around the $11,000 mark

Auto and Cars

BMW 8 Series discounts average around the $11,000 mark As if the slight downturn car sales have been recording over the last few months of 2019 wasn’t enough, the car industry was hit with a terrible start in 2020 due to the Coronavirus. Most industry experts were already counting on a sales slowdown, but nobody expected things to go sour this quickly. Most car makers had already started offering discounts on some cars and you could get some really good deals in March, including on an 8 Series. According to U.S. dealers, the revived nameplate isn’t doing too great. A lot of people are complaining about its price, the biggest drawback for the new 8 Series. Considering the six-figures asked for one on average, it enters some really hot territory where Aston Martin and Bentley ...

Vintage BMWs are the only Bikes that give me the Motorcycle-Itch

Auto and Cars

Vintage BMWs are the only Bikes that give me the Motorcycle-Itch Almost every time I attend some sort of press event with other journalists, there’s a point at which a fellow journo will tell me a story about them and a motorcycle. They’re usually great stories. After the story ends, they almost always ask if I ride. To which I always answer: “no”. I’ve never ridden a motorcycle, nor have I ever been on the back of one as a kid. I don’t know how to ride one and, if I’m being completely honest, I don’t really care to learn. Bikes have just never really appealed to me. They typically don’t give me the fizz. However, every once in awhile, I see a vintage BMW bike and it beckons to me. Just earlier today, I reported on a story about BMW ...

BMW X7 in Ametrin Metallic shows up at U.S. Dealerships Ametrin Metallic is one of those unique colors that one could order from the BMW Individual catalog. From Moonstone Metallic to Azurite Black Metallic, BMW Individual offers customers a world of exclusive exterior paint finishes. Future BMW owners can pick their favorite custom color or create their own unique paint finish to highlight their character and find their own personal expressions. So naturally, an expensive and flamboyant car like the BMW X7 deserves a bit more than a boring white or black paint job. And that’s exactly what the thought process was at Hendrick BMW in North Carolina. The Charlotte-based dealership has often been praised for its customer service and over time, they have also invested in qui...

Dubai Polices use BMW ConnectedDrive to inform citizens about COVID-19

Auto and Cars

Dubai Polices use BMW ConnectedDrive to inform citizens about COVID-19 Seldom has it been as important as today to avoid unnecessary trips with your own BMW and instead of simply staying at home. The police in Dubai are now relying on the BMW ConnectedDrive to remind drivers of this even before starting their journey. The BMW ConnectedDrive now displays messages from the Dubai Police, such as this one: “Please stay at home for your safety.” BMW Group was apparently contacted by the Dubai Police, because after all everyone has to do their part to contain the pandemic. The authorities were happy to comply with the authorities’ request to specifically ask BMW drivers to stay within their own four walls. Although the request came in the middle of the weekend, the fir...

Unique Hartge F1 to go under the hammer this summer, in Essen

Auto and Cars

Unique Hartge F1 to go under the hammer this summer, in Essen Some of you might’ve heard of Hartge over the years but that’s most likely because you were in your 20s in the 1990s. Hartge was a BMW tuner and the guys knew how to get the most out of every BMW out there. Their specialty was swapping huge engines inside cars that would otherwise be viewed as part of the other end of the spectrum. Being specialized on BMWs, they did some unique projects of the years as well, including this one of a kind Hartge F1. It was an ambitious name, no matter how you look at it and in was considered by many a true ‘Frankenstein’ project back in the day. What we have here then is a Mercedes-Benz W124 300E from 1988 with a bit of BMW flavor. Can you guess where the BMW parts come...

Auto and Cars

BMW E30 325ix with 300 miles on the clock is asking for $50,000 The automotive world just keeps on giving these days, with rare finds popping up here and there, seemingly more often than usual. Maybe it’s just because everyone is running out of stories to run during quarantine but I’ve been seeing more mint cars in the last few weeks than ever and this 1991 BMW E30 325ix is no exception. Not long ago we covered a different one with more than just a few miles on the clock, available for a measly price of $6,000. Today we’re looking at the other end of the spectrum. It’s a known fact that mint BMW E30 M3 models are now going for six-figure sums on the regular but what about the less loved and yet still mighty fun to drive BMW 325ix? Is it worth at least half of wha...

The business sedan will be first introduced digitally, followed at a later date by public viewings. Ahead of the unveil, based on recent spy photos, rendering artists are trying to capture the changes on the facelift model. This new rendering comes from @AscarissDesign and, naturally, builds upon the existing design of the 5 Series. The kidney grille gets slightly restyled with thicker outer edges and only a bit larger than the current model. According to our sources, the 5 Series LCI will not go the route of the 7 Series Facelift and its huge kidneys. The headlights are sleeker and they continue to connect into the outer edge of the kidneys. Some changes are expected in the bu...

2020 Tesla Model 3 – In Depth Review!

Auto and Cars

http://youtu.be/XODe8mwiUvw Thank you: SDA Dan Cars https://www.youtube.com/c/SDADan Tesla Referral Code : http://ts.la/stupinean5809 What's New for 2020? Tesla consistently updates its vehicles with over-the-air software tweaks and, occasionally, new mechanical components, but the company does not roll out changes to its vehicles on a conventional model-year basis. As a result, we cannot predict what changes might come to the Model 3 in the coming months, and the company will not tell us much about what the future holds in terms of updates. The Model 3 recently added features such as lane-keep assist and standard Autopilot capability (this is the company's name for its autonomous-driving feature), and now has additional charging capability via the company's upgraded V3 Supercharger net...

BMWBLOG Podcast: Episode 23 — BMW M5s Ranked, 8 Series and Quarantine Car Care It’s that time again, time to fill your earholes with the soothing sound of a man who just recently turned thirty but has the voice of a pubescent teenager. This week’s episode of the podcast is a bit late and we apologize for that. However, it’s here and in it I talk about some interesting topics, some of which caused a bit of controversy during the week. First up is our BMW M5 rankings. Earlier in the week, we ranked each generation of M5, from best to worst, and our list was met with some interesting comments. While most of you readers disagreed with at least some part of the list, there was some very interesting discussion. It’s interesting to see some of the rankings from you read...

BMW Door Handle Design: The Evolution Over The Years

Auto and Cars

BMW Door Handle Design: The Evolution Over The Years Door handles often go by unnoticed, but they are quite an essential part of the entire design philosophy, besides ensuring the easy access into the car. To be visually effective, door handles must evenly complement the styling of the car. They come in many shapes nowadays, but mostly the technical and practical essence stays the same. A short intro In recent years, the automotive constructor have tended to standardize the design of the door handles and add more security features to this type of vehicle equipment. The evolution was from the basic door lock that was visible in the driver’s door handle towards more digitalized and secure versions. These new door handles incorporate either pressure-sensitive areas that can be press...

VIDEO: Check out the E30 BMW 320is — The Italian M3

Auto and Cars

VIDEO: Check out the E30 BMW 320is — The Italian M3 History is littered with unique cars that came about due to funky loopholes in laws. As different countries often have different automotive laws, there were countless instances throughout history when automakers had to get creative to workaround differences in regulations. One such car is the Italian-market E30-generation BMW 320is, which is often nicknamed the “Italian M3”. Back in the ’80s, if you wanted a non-E30 3 Series, you wanted one of the six-cylinder models, such as the beloved 325is. However, the Italian government slapped heavy taxes on engines above 2.0 liters at the time. So BMW created a car that could offer customers something unique and fun without having to break the bank on taxes and fees. It did so...

Video: BMW F90 M5 compared in detail to BMW M8 Competition Recently, the guys from Evolve have been posting more content on their Youtube channel. The latest video published covers a topic that is heavily debated these days: should you get the M5 or spend more and go for the M8 instead? It’s a relevant topic considering the fact that both of these cars share a magnificent drivetrain underneath that sheet metal. Now, for those looking for a high-performance M model things are pretty much even between these two, even though the M8 Competition has a slight edge on paper. According to BMW, if we were to compare the Competition models of both the M5 and the M8, we’d find extremely small discrepancies. Both have a 625 PS 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood and both have 750 Nm ...

VIDEO: Is the BMW M140i Hatchback a Future Classic?

Auto and Cars

VIDEO: Is the BMW M140i Hatchback a Future Classic? There are a few relatively modern BMWs that will likely become future classics, cars that enthusiasts seek out on the used market for years to come. The BMW M2 is likely the most obvious choice but a less obvious choice might be the BMW M140i, the brand’s only rear-wheel drive, six-cylinder hot-hatch. Could it become the next sought-after classic? In this new video from Jay Emm, we take a look at the M140i and this very question. Now that the 1 Series hatchback has gone front-wheel drive, the previous-generation rear-wheel drive car is becoming even more desirable. Not that it wasn’t loved when it was new, because it was, but it’s gaining even more fan appreciation thanks to its less exciting successor. When the rear-...
