BMW joins Getting to Zero Coalition, aims to cut logistics CO2 emissions When talking about the automotive industry and the part it’s playing in climate change, one has to take into account every possible aspect, not just tailpipe emissions. The approach towards cutting CO2 emissions must include not just the end product but also how that product was made and delivered. To this end, BMW announced it will be joining the Getting to Zero Coalition, in an effort to slash CO2 emissions of its international maritime shipping. The objective of this initiative is to use zero-emission cargo vessels from 2030. The Getting to Zero Coalition is a partnership between the Global Maritime Forum, the Friends of Ocean Action and the World Economic Form. “Maritime transport is crucial for supplying the B...

BMW M4 GT3 teaser gives us our first glimpse at the M4’s massive grille The next-generation of BMW M4 is almost here. When it makes its debut, it won’t be alone, as it will be joined by its racing sibling, the M4 GT3. With the BMW M4 GT3, a new era of customer racing will be born and BMW feels it will be an iconic one. In this new teaser sketch image, we get to see a bit of the face of the M4 GT3. “With our new GT3 project, we are emphasising the significance of BMW M Customer Racing. It is a central pillar of our motorsport programme,” said BMW Group Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “With the introduction of the new GT3 regulations for 2022, the BMW M4 is the perfect base. The core product from our colleagues at BMW M is yet again just great. Without wanting to give too much away, t...

Video: Hoovie compares his $4,500 BMW 760Li against the Phantom If you’ve been watching this space, you probably heard about Hoovie’s adventures. He has been on a spending spree lately, buying all sorts of cars for his Youtube channel, most of the time the same pattern being applied: go for the cheapest model he could get. Most recently he purchased a BMW 760Li, a car that could’ve easily turned into a money pit, especially since it’s an older, early 2000s model. Even so, he got it for just $4,500 which is amazing value for the money. Predictably though, he had to invest some more into it, to get it to run properly. He had a couple of cylinder misfires and leaks to mention a couple of the issues and in the end had to pay about $3,000 to fix all of them. Now, he has a perfectly sound car...

Sorry BMW but I’d buy the Audi RS6 Avant over an M5

Auto and Cars
Sorry BMW but I’d buy the Audi RS6 Avant over an M5 My first car was a BMW. It’s well-documented here but I’ll rehash it anyway. It was an E36-generation BMW 328i sedan. Nothing special, at least to anyone else, but it ignited my passion for the brand. To be honest, I’d always loved BMWs, from reading about them in magazines and learning about the brand’s history. That’s why I bought one. But actually owning and driving one every day really drove me (pun shamelessly intended) into the brand’s arms. However, despite my love for the brand and many of its cars, if I had the money, I’d buy an Audi RS6 Avant without blinking. Audi RS6 Avant at the LA Auto Show The all-new Audi RS6 Avant, to me, is about as perfect as a daily-driven car can get. It looks fantastically aggressive, especially i...

Auto and Cars
Video: BMW M2 Competition drag races A45 AMG and Audi RS3 Now that BMW has a front-wheel drive-based 1 Series, you’d think it’d be the car to take on its German hot-hatch rivals. However, both Audi and Mercedes-AMG have hot hatches faster than what BMW can muster with the 1 Series. Both the Audi RS3 and Mercedes-AMG A45 are significantly faster than the BMW M135i. Which is why if BMW wants to compete, it’s going to need an M2 Competition to do it. I know, it’s not exactly fair but hell, it’s the closest weapon you can get from Munich. The guys from Motor1 Italy set up such a drag race and the video of it can be seen below. Some things need to be mentioned though. Both the A45 and the Audi RS3 have all-wheel drive. That’s a key advantage when drag racing from standstill, especially agai...

Video: 800 HP BMW M5 Goes for a top speed run in POV video We already established that the BMW F90 M5 is a pretty fast sedan and that it will probably fulfill all of your needs, in terms of speed and acceleration. Its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 pushes out more power than you could possibly need and the best part about this uber-sedan is that you can enjoy this madness with your friends. Yes, I used the plural because unlike in some supercars which will do the same kinds of speeds, you can fit more than two people inside the BMW M5. In standard guise, the BMW M5 comes with 600 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. That amount of power should be enough as it is but then again BMW decided it should, just to make sure, offer a bit more on the Competition model. Customers going for the more hard...

BMW M2 CS Racing – Exclusive First Look At Latest Racing Car The twin brother of the recently introduced BMW M2 CS was just introduced to the public in Munich. The BMW M2 CS Racing builds atop the racing DNA of the “regular” M2 CS and will incorporate the latest tuning from the BMW Motorsport division. The new model is going to become a favorite in private teams looking to race next year in a variety of motorsport events as it takes the basis set up by the BMW M240i Racing model and takes it a step further. Just like the M2 CS, the racing version uses a S55 3-liter twin-turbo mill under the hood and will have various amounts of power available so that it can be used in a wider range of motorsport events. The lowest level will be 280 HP while the top-end versions will have 365 HP. The p...

Auto and Cars
The Next-Generation of Formula E is being planned and sounds exciting When fantasizing about motorsport, it’s not often that Formula E is at the forefront of the mind. Which is actually a bit of a shame because it’s more exciting than a lot of car enthusiasts give it credit for. It’s obviously not as thrilling as Formula 1 but, then again, nothing else really is. However, Formula E is getting better with each new generation and the latest, Gen 3, is likely going to be the most exciting yet. The next-generation of Formula E and its cars is currently being planned and discussed by the FIA and is slated to be introduced for the 2022-2023 season. According to E-Racing365, the Gen 3 Formula E cars will have up to 450 kW of regeneration capability, with electric brake-by-wire rear brakes. Th...

The former F1 driver and winner of the Montreal Grand Prix will test a BMW M4 DTM racing car at next week’s 2019 DTM Young Driver Tests at Jerez de la Frontera (ESP). Poland-born Kubica raced for BMW Sauber F1 Team from 2006 to 2009. As well as Kubica, Nick Yelloly (GBR) will also attend the Jerez de la Frontera test for BMW Motorsport. The 29-year-old became a BMW works driver this season and claimed his first title in the China GT Championship at the wheel of a BMW M6 GT3 run by FIST-Team AAI. “We are delighted to offer the opportunity to Robert Kubica to take part in the Jerez test,” said BMW Group Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “Robert is a big name on the international moto...

BMW to recall another 116,000 older 3 Series models for faulty airbags

Auto and Cars
BMW to recall another 116,000 older 3 Series models for faulty airbags It seems like the Takata airbag scandal won’t come to an end anytime soon. Millions of cars have already been recalled around the world to have their airbags changed over the last several years and yet it looks like a new case is discovered every other month. This week BMW announced plans to recall over 116,000 older 3 Series models to have their airbags replaced, as they could potentially be dangerous in case they are deployed. The announcement came on Wednesday and says E46 3 Series models built between 1999 and 2001 are the ones that will have to come in. At least, the ones that are still running and on public roads in the US, that is. According to the Germans, about 8,000 of them definitely have faulty inflators ...

Auto and Cars
SPIED: BMW 6 Series GT Facelift will keep normal sized grille A couple of years ago, I tested the then-new BMW 6 Series GT. It was a car that, objectively speaking, perfectly fit the needs of its clientele. I found it to be comfortable, incredibly quiet and effortlessly smooth, while also having surprising practicality. Subjectively, I didn’t like it at all but that’s only because it doesn’t fit my personal taste and not because it’s a bad car. To be honest, most of my dislike came from the way it looked. Hopefully, that changes a bit with the new facelift that was seen testing in camouflage. (We don’t own the spy photos but see them at the clicky-link) A facelift won’t fix all of the visual issues with the 6 Series GT, such as its frumpy hunchback. However, it will get a new face, whic...

Auto and Cars
BMW M135i vs Mercedes-AMG A45 S — Car Mag Hot Hatch Battle It might come as a shock to a lot of BMW enthusiasts but the new M135i is actually a good driver’s car. It might not be the purist’s first choice but it’s a much better driving car than most BMW enthusiasts will ever give it credit for. However, is it a good enough first attempt to take on the might Mercedes-AMG A45 S? In this new comparison test from Car Magazine, we see what happens when these two cars take each other on. The BMW M135i is actually a surprisingly great driving car, according to Car Mag. Its steering is said to be razor sharp, its chassis is unflappable and its performance is far more than potent enough. Sure, it’s not the classic BMW recipe of pure steering and tail-happy goodness but if you can’t appreciate a ...

Auto and Cars
Dahler X3 M and X4 M Models unveiled with 610 HP Swiss tuner Dahler is the latest big name in the industry to sign off on a tuning kit for the new BMW X3 M and X4 M models. The company announced quite an extensive setup for the two new SUVs and the end results show the traditional look for a Dahler-tuned product. The biggest change comes in the performance department and takes the power output of the 3-liter S58 engine under the hood to new heights. Unveiled under the ‘Dahler Competition Line’ motto, the BMW X3 M and the mechanically identical BMW X4 M are now capable of delivering 610 HP to the wheels along with 760 Nm (575 lb-ft) of torque. This is just Stage 1 according to the tuner, which is apparently working on a Stage 2 upgrade as well. The best part about this power bump is that...

While we don’t have any guests for you this week, we do have some interesting topics. In this latest episode, I tackle two different topics that polarized our readers almost all of last week. For starters, I talk about the BMW 3 Series versus the Alfa Romeo Giulia and I finish it up with some talk about the Tesla Cybertruck. As for the former, I talk about the fact that Alfa Romeo recently gave its Giulia a facelift, which includes mostly new interior bits. However, those interior bits seem to really elevate the cabin of the Giulia and fix the biggest of its issues. So I talk about how that could really ...

BMW M Product Manager claims Batteries are too Heavy for EV M cars We’ve talked to several BMW M execs about EV performance cars over the years and the answer always seems to be the same: they’ll make one when the tech is ready. However, rarely to they ever give specifics. Sure, we can figure out what they mean on our own, as it’s not that hard to understand the range, weight and cost limitations of EVs. It is nice to get a specific, concrete answer, through. In this new interview with Australian publication CarsGuide, BMW M Product Manager Carsten Pries said that weight is the specific reason why the M Division has yet to jump into the electrified pool. “Today, BEVs carry a lot of weight with them, therefore the technology would be more appropriate if the weight of the batteries came d...

The team going over to Fuji included some iconic names, making sure the BMW M4 DTM was on good hands. This roster of amazing drivers was given the ‘Dream Team’ moniker, a rather fitting description. The guys also delivered, finishing second on a track they never raced on before. Today we’re going behind the scenes, to see how everything was made possible by the incredible team that supported the drivers in their endeavors. BMW Team Schnitzer had to take care of everything and after finishing up in Japan they had to fly to South Africa to take part in yet another amazing event, this time with the BMW M6 GT3. EXCLUSIVE: BMW USA to offer Apple CarPlay at no-cost After careful consideration and much thought, BMW of North America has decided to not charge a subscription for Apple Car. Therefore, the Apple CarPlay is now free for BMW owners. CarPlay takes the things that you want to do with your iPhone while driving and puts them on your car’s built-in display. When you connect your iPhone to CarPlay, you can get turn-by-turn directions, make calls, send and receive messages, listen to music, and more. How did this strategic change of direction come about? “BMW is always looking to satisfy our customers’ needs and this policy change is intended to provide BMW owners with a better ownership experience,” a BMW of North America spokesperson said in an email. A few months ago, BMW announced that sta...

Could this BMW E46 M3 be the one for you at $28,000?

Auto and Cars
Could this BMW E46 M3 be the one for you at $28,000? As you might very well know prices for older BMW M3 models are going through the roof right now. The first one to start this madness was the BMW E30 M3 which can’t really be found in good condition today without a six-figure price tag. Then came the turn of the E36 M3, which might not be six-figure money but still more expensive than it should be nowadays, and now it seems like prices for mint BMW E46 M3 models are starting to swell up. That’s why I think this particular car, which is currently on sale, might be of interest. Available on Classic Cars, the car seems to be in really good condition and well looked after. The odometer has only 34,000 miles on it which is great if you’re buying this car to actually enjoy it, not as an inve...

Photo Gallery: Rolls-Royce Phantom gets SPOFEC treatment Even though we’d like to think Rolls-Royce models don’t get tuned all that often – and I think they shouldn’t be – the cold facts say otherwise. Just check the Instagram pages of various artists and you’ll soon learn a lot about what can be done on a Rolls-Royce and how you can ‘make it your own’. At this point, I may be alone in thinking that a Phantom, for example, should be customized by Rolls-Royce before it leaves Goodwood. In case you want to buy a Phantom and think the customization options from Rolls-Royce are simply not enough for your peculiar taste, there are choices on the market out there. The newest was launched by SPOFEC, a company known for catering to the taste of the richest people on the planet. The Germans unve...

Part-Sharing between the BMW Z4 and Supra isn’t a bad thing… for BMW A lot of automotive journalists and enthusiasts have been making a big fuss about the part-sharing between the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra. By now, you likely know that both cars are almost identical underneath the skin. Most of their parts are shared between the two cars, with really only tuning being different. While many enthusiasts find that to be a bad thing, and many journalists have been quite vocal about that, there are a few who are okay with it (myself included). In this new piece from Top Gear, we actually get to hear from the staffer that’s tasked with driving their long-term BMW Z4. According to the Z4’s keeper, its part-sharing with the Supra is of no concern. In fact, the new Z4 is probably the best-driving ...

Auto and Cars
BMW ALPINA B7 Turbo/3 of the E28 series: A rare automotive gem ALPINA, the long-standing partner of BMW, is widely popular for some of the most refined motoring masterpieces. Among them is the ALPINA B7 Turbo/3 model of the E28 5 Series generation. There were several ALPINA derived from the E28 5 Series. Amongst them, the B7 Turbo/3 variant occupies a special place. The B7 was the very last ALPINA model underpinned by the second generation of the 5 Series. It was produced between July 1985 and December 1987. It was also the most powerful of all four iterations that existed. The birth model used for the ALPINA B7 Turbo/3 was the 535i version. The engineers based in Buchloe fitted the B7/3 engine type (which also justifies the name of the car) on this special E28. So, don’t be fooled by ...

Video: BMW X7 M50d reviewed on Fifth Gear, divides team Reviews of the BMW X7 have been pretty positive so far. You’ll struggle to find one that’s as critical as the team test performed not long ago by the guys from Fifth Gear. Admittedly, even in their case this car was as polarizing as it gets, with one member of the team almost loving it and one simply hating it. Rarely have we have seen automotive journalists so divided, let alone ones that have been working together for decades now. In their review, the Fifth Gear team took the BMW X7 in M50d guise out for one of their usual “Team Test”. The format is simple: the entire team hops along and discusses the pros and cons of the car. From the get go, there was one team member who simply couldn’t stand the car: Johnny. From the looks to ...

BMW X5 might be getting some company from the Genesis GV80 It’s not a secret that Hyundai’s luxury sub-brand Genesis is working on a premium SUV to compete with the BMW X5. It’s been well-known for awhile now and it isn’t particularly surprising. Genesis has been on a role, lately, pumping out genuinely excellent cars that can compete with the best from Germany. In fact, some of its cars actually outperform some of Zee Germans, such as the Genesis G70, which is a superb premium sport sedan. Its upcoming Genesis GV80 will be a BMW X5 competitor when it debuts and some new spy photos have surfaced, showing off a handsome SUV with a nice interior. (We don’t own the photos but you can see them here) While many BMW fans are too snobbish to acknowledge Genesis a real competitor to BMW, it is....

What’s the best non-M BMW 3 Series of all time? This new generation of 3 Series is an interesting one. More specifically, the BMW M340i is a very interesting in the history of the famous model line. The M340i is the fastest non-M 3er ever made and it’s even faster than most M3s of the past. In fact only a couple of exception M3s are faster, such as the F80 BMW M3 CS. So that got me thinking; is the BMW M340i the best non-m 3 Series of all time? If not, what is? Let’s take a look back at some of the best non-M 3 Series ever made, because there are actually quite a few excellent ones. So it’s hard to choose. E30 3 Series Let’s start with the E30-generation. The E30 is the darling of 3 Series history and it’s not just because of the M3. Each iteration of the E30 was fantastic but there we...
