Azerbaijan on Wednesday (September 20) pounded Nagorno-Karabakh, a breakaway region controlled by ethnic Armenians, despite calls from Russia and the United States for both sides to halt a spiral into war.
Azerbaijan began its operation against Nagorno-Karabakh on Tuesday after some of its troops were killed in what Baku said were attacks from the mountainous region, which Azerbaijan had blockaded for nine months.
Video posted on social media on Tuesday (September 19) by Artsakh Publiс TV showed destroyed vehicles and storefronts in Stepanakert in Nagorno-Karabakh, following gunfire and explosions.
Nagorno-Karabakh is recognized internationally as part of Azerbaijan.
