Barry Gibb And Bee Gees [Biography, Then and Now]

Barry Gibb And Bee Gees [Biography, Then and Now]

Sir Barry Alan Crompton Gibb – yes, that’s the full name of our today hero! He was born in the town of Douglas on the Isle of Man on September 1, 1946, and that means he will soon be 73.

The future symbol of the disco era was born in the family of the leader-band and housewife, and was the second child. Leslie was before, then, three years after twins Maurice and Robin were born – Barry and they became “Bee Gees”, – and Andy, which is 12 years younger.

The guys became popular, and when Barry was 15, he incited twins, and the three of them left school to focus on the music solely. By the way, at the same time the band came up with its title – first Barry, Robin and Maurice were called “The Rattlesnakes”, but then renamed the group with the initials of their producer Bill Gates – no, not the just the namesake.
Then the Gibbs went to conquer the UK. The first successes came soon: Brian Epstein invited brothers, and their first hits “New York Mining Disaster 1941” and “To Love Somebody” brought “Bee Gees” their first serious money. So serious that Barry bought himself a Lamborghini Countach, Lotus Europe and Rolls-Royce 1964, which took up the entire street where he lived.

Then everything went off the beaten path: a triumph, a permanent place among the best musicians, solo careers (there is more luck to Robin who made his “Boys Do Fall In Love” and “Juliet”) and seldom shared projects like “E. S. P.” in 1987 or albums in rock in the 1990s and at the beginning of the new Millennium. Then Maurice, who had been on drugs for too long, died, and the Bee Gees fell apart.
It happened in 2003, and only six years later Barry and Robin found a power in themselves to make en effort to announce the reformation at least. But business has not gone further than conversations, and after Robin died in 2012, so Barry Gibb was left alone.

However, loneliness did not threaten him: he was always in the center of attention of the girls and women. His first wife was Maurine Bates – Barry married her in 1966. Alas, their couple did not exist for a long time: after four vague years of family life they divorced.
In the same year, Gibb married Linda gray – ex-“Miss Edinburgh”, and feels happy to this day. When they met, she was 17, but feelings were so strong and so great, that lasted three years. By the way, Barry will never forget their wedding date because it was his birthday.
They had four sons: Steve, born in 1973, 42-year-old Ashley, Travis, who this year turned 38, and Michael, whose 35th anniversary will be held on December 1, and a daughter – Alexander, who was born on December 27, 1991. It’s interesting, that all the boys continued their father’s work and devoted themselves to music, and only the youngest is still looking for his way.

The musician prefers live communication – if his fans gather at the gate, and he is not busy with anything, he always comes out to talk to them. After many years he became more tolerant to other people’s opinion and ceased to be afraid of death – on the contrary, he even made a list of urgent cases that should be completed before the last moment of life – Barry would like to see it as a heart attack on stage when singing “Stayin’ Alive”.
