BMW X8 G09 likely to be unveiled by 2021
While BMW has yet to officially acknowledge an X8 model, the online chatter has intensified the last few years around the new model. According to our sources, the BMW X8 G09 has been approved and we could see it in late 2020 or early 2021. Whether it will be in a concept form or the production model, it remains to be seen.
We have also yet to see any test mules on the road, but when they go out for testing, they will certainly be roaming around the Spartanburg area as well. Just like all non-front-wheel-drive based SUVs, the BMW X8 G09 will be built in South Carolina on the same lines as the X3, X4, X5, X6 and X7.

The new X8 won’t be an ordinary model. Firstly, it will be offered as an M Performance model, similar to the X7. Secondly, the M division has put some extra work into the X8 so we will see an X8 M model as well. The new range-topping BMW X8 M model would be conceived as a competitor to the likes of the Audi RS8, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
Under the hood, the X8 M would get the 4.4 liter V8 TwinTurbo unit known from the newly unveiled M8, which implies a power output of over 600 horsepower.
We’ve already learned that almost certainly the X8 won’t take the shape of an X6 or X7, but rather have its own identify within the design language at BMW. Think along the lines of a new kidney grill design.
The X8 has always been rumored to be a more luxurious model, with a more bespoke finish for the discerning customer looking for the ultimate luxury. It will also be more expensive than the X7 and will most likely become the priciest car with a BMW roundel on you can buy.
The G09 X8 will use the same underpinnings of the X7 but will offer seating for four, with individual seats in the back, kind-of like what we can already see on the X7. Whether a third-row of seats will be offered, remains unknown right at the moment.
