A coroner has ruled that nine people shot dead in west Belfast by the British Army in 1971 were innocent and their deaths without justification.
The dead included:
– Roman Catholic priest, Father Hugh Mullan, 38 years-old;
– Francis Quinn, 44, who was shot when he went to Father Mullan’s aid;
– 19-year-old Noel Phillips;
– Joan Connolly, a 44-year-old mother of eight children;
– Daniel Teggart, also 44;
– Joseph Murray, 41-years-old;
– Edward Doherty, 43-years-old;
– 20-year-old John Laverty;
– and Joseph Corr who was 43-years-old.
The coroner could not say who shot the tenth victim – John McKerr, who was also innocent.
