BREAKING: Russian forces ‘drop bombs’ in path of Royal Navy

Russian forces 'drop bombs' in path of Royal Navy

The Russian Defence Ministry has claimed their forces fired warning shots at a Royal Navy destroyer after it allegedly entered territorial waters in the Black Sea.

Moscow also said a Su-24M warplane dropped four bombs close to HMS Defender.

However the UK’s Defence Secretary said the ship “carried out a routine transit” across the Black Sea. Mr Wallace went on to say “as is normal for this route, she entered an internationally recognised traffic separation corridor” and “exited that corridor safely at 0945 BST.”

He made no reference to the claims of warning shots or bombs saying that Russian vessels “shadowed” HMS Defender who was “made aware” of training exercises in her wider vicinity.
