There are some fandoms you just DO NOT mess with… and the BTS ARMY is DEFINITELY one of them.
What’s up guys, its Sussan Mourad here for Clevver News and when I say don’t mess with the ARMY, I seriously mean it.
It all started when ESPN tweeted out a few photos of BTS band member, Suga, to celebrate his time at Dodger stadium.
They tweeted two photos of Suga, decked out in a Dodgers jersey, with the caption: Suga from @bts_bighit made it out to Dodger Stadium
But instead of people being just as excited as we would be to see Suga enjoying Dodger’s stadium, Trolls began rolling in, replying to the tweet and picking on Suga. They commented on everything from the face mask he was wearing, to comments about his race.
I’ll be honest guys, the trolling comments were horrible, so horrible, I personally don’t even want to repeat them, even though it’s part of reporting on this story. But just so you understand what we’re dealing with here, one user wrote “I need a translator” as well as another saying “Do they have some kind of disease?” And in a now deleted tweet, a misinformed user wrote, “JUST Another rich Chinese Kid.”
I’m not going to go into the troll comments any more, I’m sure you get the point being made. So, obviously, the BTS ARMY went into full action here, pointing out how absolutely ridiculous and needlessly hateful these trolls were being.
And in true ARMY fashion, they didn’t fight hate with hate: they instead fought hate with FACTS and explained WHY Suga was wearing the mask. Making it clear that it is simply NOT cool to hate on Suga, or anyone, based on appearance, race, or really, any reason. And I couldn’t agree more you guys.
One fan tweeted back saying: To all asking who he is. This 26 year old man is a South Korean rapper, songwriter and music producer. His net worth is around $8.5 million. member of BTS. And to those calling him a her- your toxic masculinity is showing while he gets richer. STAY PRESSED
You tell ‘em, girl.
Another tweeted “The haters still exist in this world, but kindness and respect still out weigh it. #btsarmy”
It’s true. Trolls are always quick to slam on their keyboards, and they could use the reminder to slow down and remember there are actual humans on the other side of the screen. You guys, it is NEVER OK to spread hate like this, ever. And I’m so happy to see the Army shut down all that hate by taking the high road and with facts.
So what do you guys think of all of this? Instead of leaving negative comments about the trolls – because I am sure we all feel the same about that kind of negativity – leave me a comment below about one of your favourite things about BTS instead.
