Camila Mendes is speaking out about something awful that happened to her in college – and they got to tackle it directly on Riverdale.
What’s up guys it’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News and Camila Mendes did an interview recently with Women’s Health where she revealed that she was sexually assaulted in college.
Camila talks about getting her “to build a home” tattoo right above her rib after her first year as a freshman at New York University’s tisch school of the arts

“I had a very very bad experience” she tearfully told the interviewer at women’s health “I was roofied by someone who sexually assaulted me”
Now the tattoo serves as “a reminder for her to strengthen both her sense of self and the environment around her”.
And whenever she’s going through a hard time now, she takes a moment to think about what she can do physically for herself.
“Activity has always been an important part of my life” she said. And she doesn’t discriminate – whether that activity is lifting weights or dancing around as a part of Josie and the Pussycats.
But her favorite activity? Sleep.
“People sometimes put working out first and don’t give their bodies rest”, she said “I’ll always choose sleep first. I think it’s so underrated.”
And luckily as an actress, Camila doesn’t have to rely just on a physical release whenever she’s stressed.
Through her character Veronica, Camila has been able to have a cathartic release by facing some of her biggest fears head on – like when Nick tried to sexually assault Veronica in season 2.
Or when she got to be the hero after saving Cheryl Blossom – AKA castmate Madelyn Petcsh – after she was roofied by the same guy.
And it’s great that Cami has such a strong following of young women who can look up to her.
Like this one fan who said “love seeing celebrities address and stand for these issues. Celebrities have such a big platform, and for people like Camila who have such a strong following of young girls it becomes so important for them to see a successful woman who has overcome these difficulties.”
She also talked about her struggle with bulimia.
“I only recently gotten better” she said “I needed professionals I trusted to tell me things that I didn’t know.”
“When I was a teenager there were no role models when it came to body positivity – that simply was not a thing. Being thin was the thing.”
Well we’re certainly happy that Cami is on the road to recovery and finding her strength to speak out on such important issues.
