A project is under way to digitally map every grave in the Church of England’s 19,000 graveyards.
Researchers will visit the sites wearing hi-tech backpacks each containing two laser scanners, five cameras, and GPS tracking sensors.
It is hoped that the seven-year project will benefit ancestry researchers, organisations like Historic England, and anyone wanting to find out where their relatives were laid to rest.
