Lord Deben, chairman of the Climate Change Committee, told Trevor Phillips on Sunday on Sky News the 1.5C target “has to be attainable”.
He says it’s not just the Marshall Islands that would disappear, but “very many other communities” would be affected, such as Bangladesh.
Cities in parts of the US and Europe would also end up “losing very large sections”, he says.
He adds: “All of that we have to defend. It is a battle we just have to win.”
