In Beijing, welcome news for fitness fanatics as some of the city’s gyms reopen after being closed for nearly three months amid the Covid-19 shutdown in the country.

“After coming back to the gym I’ve been able to get my blood, my circulation going again and get my muscles flexed again,” said one gym enthusiast, surnamed Lu, 38, at “Mi Fitness”, one of the facilities which was allowed to reopen at the end of April. “This kind of feeling is fantastic!” he told Reuters, after a few sets of lateral raises.

As Spain’s daily death toll fell to its second lowest since mid-March on Saturday, half of the country prepared to move into the next phase of exit from one of Europe’s strictest lockdowns.

The first phase includes a considerable easing of measures, allowing people to move around their province as well as attending concerts and the theatre. Gatherings of up to 10 people will be allowed.
