COVID-19: Flu deaths 'could hit 60,000' this winter

People have been urged to get their flu jabs as soon as possible amid warnings of a surge in respiratory diseases this winter.

England’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer Professor Jonathan Van-Tam says the winter of 1989/90 which saw 19,000 excess flu deaths is a “marker”.

A triple threat of coronavirus, flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) could pile pressure on the NHS this winter.
