Shadow business secretary Ed Miliband says investment in the ‘green’ economy could provide a post-coronavirus jobs boost.
Labour is urging the government to invest £30bn in more sustainable industry and infrastructure over the next 18 months, potentially creating around 400,000 new jobs.
It comes as figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show a record 314,000 redundancies were recorded in the three months to September as COVID-19 took a further toll on jobs.
The unemployment rate rose to 4.8%, its highest level since November 2016 and up from 4.5% the month before.
