The UK’s four nations are to diverge on their responses to rising numbers of Omicron cases, as it was announced that England will face no further measures before New Year.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said people living in England can go ahead with their end-of-year celebrations as planned – but should take lateral flow tests before attending events.
Meanwhile, the devolved nations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are taking a more cautious approach, with some restrictions on hospitality and social contact already in place.
