COVID-19: Vaccine release could be prolonged after a dosing error in Oxford University trial

Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and Oxford University have acknowledged an error in their phase three trial.

While most of the volunteers got the correct dose for both of their two shots, not all did.

Regulators agreed that the trial could continue after being informed, and the error had no effect on vaccine safety.

The outcome is likely to see a start of a new trial in the US for more data to assure preliminary results of their COVID-19 vaccine is suitable for regulators including the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency and the Food and Drug Administration.

UPDATE: An AstraZeneca spokesperson said:

“We are further evaluating the data and will work with regulators on the best approach for further evaluation. This would add to data from existing trials which are currently being prepared for regulatory submission.”
