Data Dive: Was India put on the red list too late?

Ministers have said there are now 2,323 confirmed cases of the Indian variant of coronavirus in the UK.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the variant had doubled in the past week, and there is growing concern about what it could mean for plans to lift lockdown restrictions further.

Labour put the blame squarely on the Government, describing the UK’s borders as being ‘about as secure as a sieve’.
