DUP leader Edwin Poots resigns after 21 days in the role

The DUP leader Edwin Poots has resigned after 21 days in office, putting the party in a state of disarray.

Edwin Poots has quit as leader of the Democrat Party Unionist Party in Northern Ireland after just three weeks in the job.

It comes on the same day his colleague Paul Givan was confirmed as Northern Ireland’s first minister in a deal that seemed to have averted a crisis at Stormont.
