EXCLUSIVE: BMW M2 CS – First real life photos
We teamed up with our friends at BMW Belgium to bring you the first, exclusive, real life photos of the new BMW M2 CS. We have only seen the new M2 Clubsport model through the lens of the official BMW photographers, but now it’s time to see what the car looks like in a regular setting.
Our BMW M2 CS coverage can be found here, but in case you missed it, we will walk you through some of the high-level points.
Let’s start with the engine found under the vented hood. The M engineers have fitted the BMW M2 CS with a slightly modified version of the S55 engine that powers the M2 Competition. That means it’s a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine with 450 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque.
According to BMW, the M2 CS can get fro 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds flat with the optional seven-speed DCT and 4.2 seconds with a six-speed manual. But as always, we expect these numbers to be conservative, so we will test the car next Spring.
BMW says it developed the M2 CS alongside the BMW M2 CS Racing model, therefore it features a few racing inspired upgrades. For example, there are high cylinder pressures, with cylinder walls coated with a wire-arc spray instead of liners to save weight. Several carbon fiber parts, included the roof and part of the hood, help shave off some kilos.
Unique to the CS is also a dual-branch exhaust system with electronically controlled exhaust valves.
Inside, it gets carbon fiber door pulls and door panel trim, as well as Alcantara everywhere and seemingly miles of contrast stitching. The center console is also made entirely of carbon fiber, which reduces weight by 50-percent over the standard car’s (around 6 lbs/2.7 kg).
Standard features in the M2 CS include the Active M differential, Adaptive M suspension and M Performance brakes with red-painted six-piston fixed front and four-piston fixed rear calipers. Customers can pick between 19-inch forged wheels in a high-gloss jet black finish, with an option for gold matte finish.
North American pricing and ordering details will be announced closer to the 2020 BMW M2 CS’s launch in Spring 2020. In Germany, the 2020 BMW M2 CS is priced at 95,000 euros. You can check out the pricing for other markets here.
