Where’s all my soul sistas? Cuz Ed Sheeran teased an idea to make an all-male version of Lady Marmalade and to say the internet has mixed feelings about this would be an understatement!
What’s up guys? It’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News and Lady Marmalade is still such a legendary tune, right?
Honestly, I still belt it out in my car when it’s on, which is why I’m not exactly sure how I feel about the news that Ed Sheeran has thought about remaking it with all dudes.
Isn’t it called LADY Marmalade for a reason?
Let’s rewind for a sec, in case you don’t remember, the song was made famous by Patti LaBelle.
And now Ed Sheeran apparently wants to get in on this female anthem.
He told Charlamagne Tha God that if he remade the song, he’d want to collab with Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars, which ok, I can admit, would be epic.
So on one hand, I am definitely down for a collab between Ed, Bruno, and Justin.
But on the other hand, can’t us ladies just have this ONE THING?
The two all-female versions we already have are literally flawless. So Ed, love you buddy, but not sure we need another version. You know? It’s not “A Star is Born,” we don’t need THIS many remakes.
And the internet, of course, had plenty to say about this whole debacle.
The tweets about this all-male “Lady Marmalade” remix made one thing VERY clear — nobody wants or needs this.
One person wrote quote, “I will only accept ed sheeran’s stupid what-about-me manly lady marmalade remake if it’s called ‘daddy jelly,’ thank you send tweet.”
And another said quote, “ed sheeran wanting to remake lady marmalade with justin bieber and bruno mars is the equivalent to mixing mayonnaise, creamy peanut butter and sriracha and then drinking it all. it’s guaranteed that ppl are gonna throw it back up. #ladymarmanahdude”
Ok… that’s a visual I certainly didn’t need today. GROSS.
But the meme’s have also been hilarious.
One person tweeted quote, “Me, when I heard about the horrible remake of Lady Marmalade that no one asked for.”
So is this Ed Sheeran remake actually going to happen?!? Luckily, he posted on his Instagram story to clarify.
He said quote, “Guyz obviously an all male ‘Lady Marmalade’ would be completely dreadful. I didn’t say I wanted to cover it you melons, just that loads of people on a track like that might be fun. Lighten up, it’s nearly summer.”
Ok so at least Ed and all of us can agree on one thing … this is not the collab we need right now.
So there you have it, the all-male Lady Marmalade – or Lady Man-malade – collab doesn’t seem like it’ll be happening any time soon, but Twitter has still yet to simmer down about it.
