Last night’s episode of Riverdale was a tough pill to swallow for fans as we said goodbye to Luke Perry in a touching moment between a father and son.
What’s up guys, it’s Sussan Mourad back here on Clevver News, and last night, fans and castmates alike endured a bittersweet ending to Luke Perry’s run on Riverdale following his unexpected death from a stroke at age 52 last month.
As promised by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Perry’s final scene as Archie’s father, Fred Andrews, served as a tribute to his role as a father both on and off screen. In last night’s episode, Archie pays a visit to the hospital, where a group of people are waiting on the prognosis of his boxing match opponent, Randy. Randy ultimately dies, and Archie blames himself.
Archie then swears off boxing, and confesses that Randy was using drugs, to which Fred holds his final heart-to-heart with Archie, as he backed his son’s allegation, showing the unconditional support between the father-son duo.
Fred’s speech rang true to the type of father and character he portrayed both on and offscreen. Earlier this week, Aguirre-Sacasa previewed last night’s scene, adding that it would be a QUOTE “beautiful, true moment between a father and his son” and that he wishes these scenes could go on forever.
Riverdale fans took to Twitter to express their appreciation for Luke and the heart and soul he brought to television with one user writing QUOTE, “Luke Perry. Thank you for everything. You left this world better.” Another fan was ALL of us when she tweeted this GIF as Luke first appeared on screen, saying, “One minute into the show and seeing Luke Perry.”
And one fan summed it up perfectly with a heartfelt photo of the Riverdale cast, along with Perry, writing QUOTE, “Riverdale won’t be the same. Rest in Heaven, Luke Perry. You’re already so missed. Fred Andrews was the heart of the show.”
The CW has not yet confirmed how Riverdale will deal with Fred’s absence going forward, however, Aguirre-Sacasa has stated that every future episode of the series will be dedicated to Luke, and that regardless of how the show decides to handle Fred Andrews’ death, he also said QUOTE, “Luke was, is, and will always be a big part of Riverdale. We’re kind of a family and when a loss like this happens, you carry it always. It changes and hopefully becomes a little less painful as time goes by, but you’re changed.”
We’re sending our deepest condolences and well wishes to Luke’s loved ones at this time, and right now, feel free to share all your well wishes and thoughts on last night’s episode down here in the comments, and you can find me on my socials @Sussan_Mourad.
