Ah… Coachella. The most ‘grammable time of the year when influencers grin and bear it through heat, sweat, mud and more to get some priceless content on their feed. Well, some do. Others, like YouTuber Gabbie Hanna, get the same exact photos without EVER stepping foot into Coachella Valley.
What’s up guys, it’s Emile Ennis Jr. and YES, for some- it ALL lies in the power of photoshop. YouTube sensation Gabbie Hanna COMPLETELY faked her way through Coachella. She managed to get gorgeous, sun-soaked shots without having to actually GO to Coachella. Her mission was to point out how fake social media can be.
So she’s an influencer… posing as an influencer… surrounded by influencers… in an attempt to actually influence people? Mind Blown That’s a little too meta for me.
In the past, Gabbie has totally BASHED Coachella. And when I say bashed, I mean ***bashed***.
And she had her reasons… which, well, I’ll just let her sum it up for you:
SO, obviously, her fans were a little confused when they started seeing photos from the festival on her feed.
Honestly, the way she pulled this all off is genius. She took photos at her friend’s house to make it seem like she was staying at lavish AirBnB. She also posed on a lawn out in Marina Del Ray… which, if you’re counting, is about a 3 hour drive to Coachella. Each photo was completed with the Coachella LOOK- yup, her looks included everything from brightly colored wigs to cut-off denim shorts.
And she didn’t spare a single detail… down to the friggen wristbands. She realized it would be a TOTAL giveaway if hers was missing, so she did what any influencer with access to an A-team of photoshop extraordinaires would do… she had fake wristbands mocked up for her to use.
Seriously. Sky’s the limit when it comes to Photoshop.
After she had her pics, Gabbie just worked some filter magic and added Coachella crowds into the backgrounds and VOILA. Coachella mastery. Gabbie’s whole point in doing this was to prove how FAKE social media can be. While it seemed like she was out having the time of her life, she was actually…sitting in a chair glued to her computer screen. Huh.
She finally came clean in a new video on her channel where she admitted QUOTE “If you’ve paid close attention to me over the last couple or few years, you know I’m not Coachella’s biggest advocate.”
She added QUOTE “That was the purpose of this whole thing was how easy it is to fake things on social media.”
Gabbie also pointed out that the fun of it all started making sense to her when she got into Coachella-character. Then again, she also proved you could have all that fun and more without the sweltering heat and overpriced food.
Well played, Gabbie.
