Greg Clarke leaves FA after wide backlash to his ‘offensive’ comments at MPs hearing

For four years Greg Clarke has been in charge of the Football Association and as a member of UEFA, it saw him attend world events with royalty, managers and players.

Now he is returning back to business, after comments to MPs left him to apologise for using the term “high-profile coloured footballers”.

When choosing words for a male professional player who made their sexuality public, he later used the phrase ‘life choice’, although it was unclear whether he was referring to sexuality itself or the decision that player would need to make themselves.

Clarke admitted in a statement the comments were a ‘disservice to our game’.

Kick It Out head of development Troy Townsend said the comments left him feeling that ‘sorry wasn’t enough’ and welcomed the FA’s actions.
