Halsey’s first solo single of the year is finally here and it’s the girl power anthem we were waiting for.

What’s up guys? It’s Sinead de Vries here for Clevver News and I don’t know about you, but we’ve had Halsey’s new song on repeat since it was released last night.

While we’ve loved Halsey’s collabs this year, we’ve all been anxiously awaiting her solo music and it did not disappoint.

And for those of you that thought you had Halsey all figured out based on her last album, it’s time to think again.

Because her new song, “Nightmare” is introducing us to a whole new side of Halsey I never knew I needed.

In the song, she touches on the frustration of being a woman in 2019, like constantly being told to smile or how to use your body.

And in the song Halsey says quote, “No, I won’t smile, but I’ll show you my teeth, And I’ma let you speak if you just let me breathe/I’ve been polite, but won’t be caught dead/Lettin’ a man tell me what I should do in my bed.”

Yaaas Halsey, say it louder for the people in the back!

In the empowering video Halsey is seen posing for a mugshot, spitting blood, and rioting in the streets.

The video features an all female cast and some famous familiar faces. We see you Cara Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse and Debbie Harry.

“Nightmare” was also directed by a woman, Hannah Lux Davis, who has worked with Halsey before and has directed music videos for everyone from Hailee Steinfeld to Kasey Musgraves to Ariana Grande.

And fans are loving it. One person tweeted quote, “just watched halsey’s new music video and im….. can i marry this woman like genuine question wtf.”

And another mentioned how relevant the song is in light of what’s been happening in recent news. She tweeted: “ ‘I’m tired and angry, but somebody should be’ – Halsey the timing of this song… IMPECCABLE”

Halsey also took to Twitter to talk about how the song is inspired by her female fans saying quote, “imagine getting onstage every night and seeing young women sweating mascara tears, lightning in their eyes, throwing elbows and raising fists, screaming till the veins in their necks raise under warm skin, and not being inspired by it. this song is about you, for you.”

“Nightmare” is supposed to be a track on her upcoming third studio album, and if it’s any indication of what the rest of the album is going to sound like, we can’t wait.

Alright now I want to hear from you. What do you think of Halsey’s new song? Are you here for this new era of her music?
