Halsey went IN on the Recording Academy aka the Grammys during her acceptance speech at the 2019 American Music Awards!
What’s up everyone, it’s Sinead Diveres with Clevver news and Halsey took a page straight from the Taylor Swift Classy Clapback handbook when giving her Amreican Music Awards speech! Just to rewind realllll quick… Halsey was snubbed by the Grammys and she let her frustrations out on Twitter! Grammy nominees were announced on Thursday, November 20th and while Lizzo and Billie Eilish were nominated in all the major categories… Halsey was seemingly missing from ANY and ALL categories! Even with the help of BTS, Halsey still was not able to secure a nomination! On Thursday Halsey tweeted, “my fans please do not waste your anger or frustration. i see a lot of you are upset. of course im sad too. none of it matters. literally none of it. you’re here. im here. + everything is gonna stay exactly the same and without me is still a super tight, record breaking song.” She continued to talk about BTS, “deleting and ignoring all negativity. BTS deserved many nominations. I am however, unsurprised that they weren’t acknowledged. the US is so far behind on the whole movement. the time will come”Fast forward to Sunday at the American Music Awards where Halsey took home the award for Favorite Pop Rock Song. This was her first american music award win and she really let the fans know how much she appreciated them and also found the time to shade the Recording Academy!She started off by talking about validation and that while she was growing up she thought winning an award or trophy was the end all be all of fame and validity. Which to her point… me too! If you got a first place trophy you were the best, if you got second or third… well thanks for trying!
However; as she’s gotten older she’s learned success is much more than a trophy. She believed the awards were the ultimate validation, but later learned that most of these awards are really not what they seem.Then she went in on the grammys! She had major support from big players in the music game like Post Malone and Lil Nas X.
In the midst of the shade, Halsey made it very clear that it is the fans thoughts and opinions that matter most, no award will define her or make her feel less than she is! And it’s clear Taylor Swift was her biggest fan in the room! I mean just look at how excited Taylor is for halsey! #FriendshipGoals. Honestly, I’m here for that uplifting and positive message and I hope you guys are too.
