Turkey is angling to be one of the first countries to rebound their tourism industry by leading the way in so-called ‘healthful tourism.’ The Ministry of Culture and Tourism is intensely lobbying to attract foreign visitors and convince them that Turkey is a safe destination through a ‘Healthy Tourism Certification’ program for individual hotels, airlines, airports, transport services, and restaurants. But some residents fear the program will be successful–and that tourism will increase the spread of the virus.
