How will easing lockdown affect COVID-19 deaths in the UK?

The number of COVID-19 infections, hospitalisations and deaths has been falling – but scientific advisers have warned that this could change as restrictions are eased.

If lockdown ended completely by the end of April, the UK could see another 82,000 coronavirus deaths.

Even if lockdown lasted until August, modelling suggests there would still be at least 33,000 more deaths.
